Community Involvement

At Peconic Landing, we believe that meaningful relationships among our members, staff and the greater North Fork community nurture a welcoming spirit and a strong sense of unity.

Our community is an economic mainstay in Southold Town as the second largest employer with over 320 employees and spending millions with local businesses. Peconic Landing also contributes over 1.4 million dollars annually in taxes with over 900K dollars allocated for school taxes.

Our members and employees give generously of their time, talents and financial resources to support a variety of local causes. We’re committed to making a difference in the lives of others – both on campus and in the community at large.

Community Connections Program

Through Community Connections, we’re building on our strong tradition of being a good neighbor. Our goal is to establish Peconic Landing as an invaluable health, wellness and cultural arts resource for all segments of the community.

Special Events and Initiatives

The John May Mile & 5K Race, named in honor of our late board chair John M. May, is an annual multigenerational fitness race held in honor of Older Americans Month. The race has grown into a prominent community event and has raised more than $250,000 for the local Greenport Fire Department since its start.

Many members joined with other volunteers to restore Brecknock Hall, the 19th century manor home at the campus entrance. Some champions of this historic local landmark donated funds while others contributed their time, talents and elbow grease to tackle the extensive renovation effort.

To provide inspiration and support for local students, Peconic Landing and its members have developed cooperative programs such as:

  • The Dictionary Project – Providing third graders across the North Fork, nearly 400 plus students, with their very first dictionary.
  • Trailblazers and Pathfinders – a program in which members and business leaders from the greater community mentor graduating seniors from across the North Fork.
  • Tomorrow’s Leaders – Internship opportunities for Nursing Home Administrators in training.
  • Internship opportunities for local students in human resources, business adminstration, hospitality and more.
